Discover one-of-a-kind fluid paintings that capture the sea's endless movement, alongside bold color adventures that celebrate pure artistic expression. Each piece is an original creation, never to be repeated, bringing tranquil energy and vibrant life into your space.
Inspiration/Story
"West Coast" evokes the deep, crystalline blues of the Pacific Ocean—from the brilliant azure of California's coastal waters to the profound Prussian depths found in the open sea. This piece captures the Pacific's characteristic clarity and the way Western light creates those impossibly pure blue gradations that seem to stretch infinitely toward the horizon. It embodies the vast, contemplative spirit of the Pacific coastline where sky and sea become one continuous blue meditation.
Technique Notes
The acrylic swipe technique brings fluidity and movement to this oceanic composition, with carefully layered blues from brilliant to Prussian creating natural depth variations. Metallic accents simulate the sparkle of Pacific sunlight on water, while the controlled swipe movements echo the Pacific's characteristic long, rolling wave patterns. The epoxy resin topcoat intensifies the blues and creates aluminous, water-like surface that changes subtly with viewing angle and ambient light.
Display Suggestions
Ideal for spaces seeking tranquility and expansiveness—bedrooms, meditation areas, or office spaces where calm focus is desired. The cool blue palette creates a soothing atmosphere and pairs beautifully with white, gray, or warm wood tones. As a Vertical piece, it works wonderfully above headboards, mantels, or console tables. The resin finish makes colors appear to glow from within, particularly striking in spaces with natural light or strategic accent lighting.

J. Derek Riddle
Artist, Owner
Welcome to JDRiddleArts, where the fluid beauty of the ocean meets the spontaneous energy of abstract expression.
I'm JD Riddle, the artist behind every piece you see here. My journey began years ago with watercolors, but I've evolved into acrylic pouring techniques that mirror what initially drew me to art—the unpredictable, organic flow of natural forces.
My Process: Working from my Red Bank, New Jersey studio, I use fluid acrylics that dance and merge in ways I can guide but never fully control. Each piece emerges through a collaboration between artist intention and natural flow, much like the ocean's constant recreation of itself.
Recent Recognition: Featured at the Guild of Creative Arts in Shrewsbury, NJ, and selected for the 45th Annual Juried Exhibition at the Monmouth Museum.
