Discover one-of-a-kind fluid paintings that capture the sea's endless movement, alongside bold color adventures that celebrate pure artistic expression. Each piece is an original creation, never to be repeated, bringing tranquil energy and vibrant life into your space.
Inspiration/Story
"East Coast" captures the vibrant, ever-changing waters of the Atlantic as seen from New Jersey's shoreline. The rich greens and turquoise hues reflect those magical moments when sunlight filters through ocean waves, creating depths that shift from emerald shallows to deeper teal currents. This piece embodies the lush, temperate character of Eastern seaboards—where maritime forests meet the sea and coastal storms bring dramatic color variations to the water.
Technique Notes
Created using the acrylic swipe technique, this piece began with a fluid base of professional acrylics mixed with pouring mediums. The swipe method allowed for controlled movement across the canvas, mimicking the horizontal sweep of waves across a shoreline. Metallic gold accents catch light like sun-kissed wave crests, while the layered greens create the depth and movement found in Atlantic waters. The epoxy resin topcoat enhances color saturation and provides a glass-like finish that amplifies the water-like quality of the piece.
Display Suggestions
Perfect as a statement piece in living rooms, dining areas, or offices where its calming green palette can create a serene focal point. The vertic 36" x 24" format works beautifully above sofas, credenzas, or as part of a gallery wall. The rich greens complement both warm and cool color schemes, making it versatile for contemporary, coastal, or traditional décor. The resin finish allows it to catch and reflect light beautifully in well-lit spaces.

J. Derek Riddle
Artist, Owner
Welcome to JDRiddleArts, where the fluid beauty of the ocean meets the spontaneous energy of abstract expression.
I'm JD Riddle, the artist behind every piece you see here. My journey began years ago with watercolors, but I've evolved into acrylic pouring techniques that mirror what initially drew me to art—the unpredictable, organic flow of natural forces.
My Process: Working from my Red Bank, New Jersey studio, I use fluid acrylics that dance and merge in ways I can guide but never fully control. Each piece emerges through a collaboration between artist intention and natural flow, much like the ocean's constant recreation of itself.
Recent Recognition: Featured at the Guild of Creative Arts in Shrewsbury, NJ, and selected for the 45th Annual Juried Exhibition at the Monmouth Museum.
